The setting of the winery
An outstanding location
Our winery is right on St James’s Way and in the middle of the Biosphere Reserve. Located in Morga, in the heart of Bizkaia, it is the perfect spot to enjoy the lush green of the landscapes thanks to the Atlantic climate.
Surrounded by trees and gentle mountains, the winery is also the starting point for easy and family-friendly hiking routes, such as climbing up Mount Bizkargi or Mount Arburu. A special place to spend a day immersed in food and wine culture and nature.

Our story
The winery was built in 2011 for the members of the cooperative known as the Talleri Winery at that time. The Talleri Winery cooperative was the first cooperative of Bizkaia Txakoli producers and one of its goals was to create a superior quality product. The Bitxia Txakoli (bitxia is Basque for jewel) was the result of this shared work and combined effort. The cooperative is now a company with three partners and trading under the name of Talleri Berria Upategia eta Mahastiak.

The Architecture
Love of detail
From the aesthetical perspective, two concepts prevailed when building the winery. On the one hand, light and transparency thanks to a glass façade. On the other hand, the aim was to mimic the surrounding area by using a curved roof integrated in the landscape of mountains and streams.
Precisely, this tiled roof is one of the building’s main features and is also behind the winery’s name. Talleri means tile factory in the Morga local dialect of Basque.
The design of the roof was chosen as a tribute to the old tile factory that stood there over 50 years ago. The file factory was built by Pedro Bilbao, from Morga, in around 1930. The factory produced tiles and bricks made from the local earth.

Inside the Shrine
When you visit the winery, we will take you through our wine making process from start to finish; from the grapes being brought in after the harvest, to the bottling, labelling and final packaging. After the tour, on a fine day, you can relax on the large terrace under the eaves of the roof and enjoy the views over the mountains and our vineyards. It is the perfect spot to taste our Txakolis and other culinary delights.
Our winery can be visited throughout the year. We regularly organise different activities and events, such as tastings with pairings, tasting courses and picnics in the vineyard.

The Land and the Vineyards
Our varieties
The Talleri Berria Upategia eta Mahastiak vineyards are located between the municipalities of Lezama, Larrabetzu, Morga and Muxika. The vineyards are in the higher areas, at altitudes between 25 and 300 metres. We use traditional techniques to get the most Atlantic profile from our vineyards, where the Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratia variety is particularly important. This variety produces grapes of superb quality and is complemented by others including Hondarrabi Zuri, Riesling and Hondarrabi Beltza. Lively and fresh Txakoli wines are the outcome.
